1998 Chevy Cavalier-How do I remove the factory 5-speed shift knob? Please read details.?

I got the car for my son and he wanted to change the knob. He bought a %26quot;flashy%26quot; one and cut the old knob cover off. Now he can't remove the knob itself. I'm not a 'gearhead' and haven't been able to find help at auto parts stores, etc... Looking for a solution. Thanks

look at the front of the shift knob ( facing the radio) there is a clip that you need to pull it out then it will come off

it will be one of two styles - a horse shoe shaped clip or a set screw - and it will be in 1 of 2 positions either on the front of the shifter or on the side of the shifter no big deal !!
